    Wipers not stopping

Hi, Have been on a weeks trip to Bath for my daughters graduation and the Stag passed with flying colours despite it being soaking wet all week. Only problem was the wipers occaisionally kept running on slow speed when switched off. They would also suddenly go into slow speed when on intermittant. They would always go back to their home position when they decided to stop which could either be on their own or when the ignition is turned off and on. I don't know whether to start with the motor home switch or the wiper stalk. Any ideas

Hi Roy, as it's easier, I'd start with the motor, take off the keeper band, that lets you tilt the motor away from the wing, then you can undo the cover screws and lift the cover away. The parking switch is operated by a white nylon slider. That gives you a starting point, if you want more help, sing out. Martin.

You may be lucky and its a little tweak to the limit switch as its so erratic.

I've always had a bit of an issue with my wipers doing a similar thing.

All the speeds work fine, intermittant works sometimes, and then goes onto normal speed rather than intermittant, and then they wont turn off.

Is the limit switch all part of the parking switch and slider?

        Al.

I had a look at the parking switch but could not see anything wrong with it. Little button went in and out, and wires looked ok.

            What goes wrong with them?

LD parts want £45 for one!! I bought one for my landrover a while ago for £6.00!

            Rip off or what?

            Al.

The position of the parking switch is adjustable from underneath the wiper morot assembly. From memory there are two screws, slacken them and move the switch probably towarde the back of the car as little. This worked for me.

At the motor end of the wiper rack, is a bent metal piece that operates the slider, these can bend, partially break, or break off altogether, any of those things can produce some odd effects. This requires a new rack, not difficult, or some very neat welding. Of course it may be as simple as dirty contacts in the column switch, but worth checking the mechanical bits first. . Sorry Al, but if you've not done it before, I wouldn't adjust the switch, unless of course the screws have come loose. ( like the ones in my head ) Martin.

Hello Roy i had the same thing happen last week when my stag got wet for the second time in its life with me, i was ready for a play and tweak and the undoubted balls up that follows, but it seems to have healed up and started working as it should.
I suppose it could have been a damp connection somewhere either on the stalk or the motor, who knows, just a thought as the damp weather may have got into yours...Steve
