"You were only supposed to change the bloody blown bulb !"

We've all done it - started one job, only to see it escalate into about a dozen others

Well, a blown bulb meant my headlamp had to come out and then I saw how the bowl was a bit tatty - and so, of course, were the other three so they all had to come out to be cleaned and painted, didn't they ? (Even though nobody except me will ever see them )

Then I saw that the headlamp panel had quite a bit of surface rust so that needed treating and painting, of course.

Well, as I was going to be spraying, I didn't want the loom there, so out that came and, of course, that couldn't be put back in all messy with waxoyl and frayed tape, could it ? And whilst I was at that, it made sense to remake all of the slightly dodgy looking connections - Oh and, of course, the side indicators had to come out for a clean up.

Well, of course, whilst all this was out I could see just how bad a job of patching the wheelarch a PO had made and, of course, I've got to rectify that, haven't I ?

And so, on and on and on But we love it all, don't we, especially as thew weather is so grotty that I don't really want to be using the car too much.

The good thing is that the only cost, apart from paint, has been a £8 set of headlamp mounting plugs, screws and rubber gaskets.

    Cheers

    Julian

Nicely done Julian. Keep looking, I'm sure those rubber exhaust fixings could do with a clean

I think it is Brooklands Racing Green .

I'm sure it's not proper BRG as it's too light for that. However, I've used Brooklands green to paint the headlamp panel in areas that cannot be seen when the lamps and grille are in place but that is certainly not the same colour as my car.

So, I guess my car has been resprayed a non standard colour, however, as I think I have mentioned to you, the odd thing is that I have seen other Stags that appear to be exactly the same colour as mine - Maybe Triumph had two shades of BRG and didn't tell anyone

I have contacted various BRG and Brooklands owners to try and compare colours however it's impossible to really compare in pictures - my car looks like different colours in different pictures !

        Cheers

Hello Julian i know what you mean, nothing ever is just one repair job is it, last week side light bulb blew fitted new bulb still nothing, that meant headlight out to get to the sidelight bugger broken connection at the connector, fixed it light working put it back, then both lens screws threads stripped ( wish i was a weakling ) repaired the fitting and fitted new screws.
Later this week i have to change the gaskets on the back lights via removing the fuel tank no doubt!!!
as you say all good fun what else could i be doing , working... or shopping with the trout... watching tv.. no contest is it...Steve

Thanks Alan, although I sort of wish you hadn't said that

My underbonnet is one of the worst bits of my car with about four different colours on the inner wings etc. It's one job I know I've got to do and I want to do it - but I just dread starting it

                    Cheers

Just Googled that and see it affects Jag, MG BMW and MX5 owners, as well as numerous others I'm sure

Mind you, I'm a mere pale shadow of you, the Master . I think mine's more a case of Trigger's broom

i caught it from you mate , i'm now thinking of taking the lights out too, in for a penny, not quite on drew's level, i wish i was, but i will have a bash, i have a couple of weeks off at the end of the month so one of them is for the engine bay, i hope anyway.
oh and i have forgot, new boot carpets too i dont think a week will be long enough.
At least we can sit back when it's done and admire our handy work

Nice job. I have some ideas to re design those stupid plastic headlamp adjusters too! I want to use some st/st screws instead! Always something else to do but we love 'em to bits!

                              Hi Julian
There is about 7 or 8 shades of British racing green it was known as one of the hardest colours to match .Car manufactures would come up witha colour and then send a pattern to all the major paint manufactures of the time ie ICI valentines glassurit ect ect.each paint manufacture would then mix there own paint formula from the original pattern if it was a difficult colour like B R G each formula would be slightly different .then these would be sent to the smaller paint manufacturesand the whole process started all over again .This is why some of the older colours are so hard to match
