New sun visors wheres the hole???

Well just turned the big 50 today and have been threatening to by a new set of sun visor's for a while, so my son bought a set for my birthday good lad LOL.
Had a closer look at them this afternoon and noticed that there are no holes in them to mount them to the pivot point.
Now, I'm not to keen in just cutting a hole in them to insert the pivot rod, I can see the vulcanising seems splitting open slowly over a period of time.
Has anyone bought the new sun visors and how did they successfully make the holes.
I'm toying with the idea of heating a rod and pushing that in to form a sealed circular hole which may stop any splitting at the vulcanised seems????

Hi Mike, poke the rod through them, no need to cut, that helps to stop them going floppy, sounds primitive but that's how it works. Martin. PS Happy Birthday

I put a small cut in mine, didn't seem to do them any harm, just a straight cut in the end.

Fitted my own only last night, made a small hole in the right place with the point of some sharp scissors, and pushed them right on. Look fine.

The seams are not "vulcanised" just heat sealed PVC. If they start to split, a little heat will seal 'em right back up. Or PVC glue, whatever.

Hot soldering iron. Cauterises the hole!

I've just fitted new ones too. Looking at the old ones, the holes for the rods just seemed to be where the seam was, so I used a sharp knife to open up the seam just enough. Seemed (oops, sorry!) to work Ok for me!

              Cheers,
              Mike.

                  Mike, Martin,
"Helps to stop them going floppy" The description given is correct, but I've found by accident that the rod that passes through the visor has a slight kink, this is what prvents the visors becoming floppy. During my rebuild I actually straightened out the kink, thinking they had gotten bent over the years, only to find that the visors just would not stay up! Re-introduced the kink and all was well again. Just a thought.

Ended up not a big problem visors fitted and I used a soldering iron to ensure they edges of the hole were sealed as suggested by Staggeringabout. They sure look a lot more tidy than the old ones, however I fel they take away a bit of the originality, however, I was getting a bit peed off with the yellow mirror on the passenger side, as it always led to my wife moaning about the state of the original mirror. LOL

                              Ok Mike,

I reckon you should refit the old ones, in the interests of originality, and then you can give me your un-needed new ones

                              Cheers
