    Radiator spraying water

This is interesting, before the car had its other problems the radiator was fine.

After filling it up and starting the engine I saw 3 pin hole leaks all at the base of the water filler hole at the top of the radiator.

Wonder where they came from. I guess I should be able to get thsi repaired as the rest of the radiator seems in good condition.

What are the thoughts on the forum?

Seems to be a weak spot, Steve. I had one go there last year. According to the (well known) supplier "it is because Stag owners are paranoid about water levels and are always checking/topping up, therefore weakening the joint".

    That's OK then

    Dave.

      Hi Steve

Did you have any coolant pressure problems before the engine was stripped down?

If the pressure was low in the system these pin hole may not have shown up?

IMHO the rad should be repairable, if you have got a Kenlowe fitted get an integral temp sensor fitted at the same time!

Following my success with the header tank, I would suggest repairing the pinholes yourself, sand back to bare metal around the leak, clean with meths and away you go! Worth a try and you will feel nicely chuffed with yourself when it works!

I am happy to have a go but what would you use to fix it?

I guess my soldering iron is not hot enough.

          What about silicon sealer?

Regarding heating problems prior to the repair, I only ran the car for 40 Km so dont really know.

Blow lamp and soft solder, don't forget to use flux.

I had this same problem last year. I boughtone of those fountain pen sizedbutane torchesfrom ebay for about £3.50 and it was perfect for the job. Drained the top of the rad and 5 minutes with that and a couple of inches of solder -not had a problem since.

                  Cheers,

                  Bob.

I like the little blowtorches that you get from cookshops to scorch the tops of creme brulee.... give out more controllable heat that the little penones - superb for domestic plumbing in confined spaces too!

I patched it for now with Silicon Sealer that at least stopped the squirting and I will buy one of those tools and some solder this week. Now Iknow what I am doing next weekend.

Thanks again for the advice, seems to be a numbe rof these Pencil Torches on EBay quite cheap
