Should My Wiring Loom be Routed Through NS Front Wing Cavity?

Now it seems to have stopped raining, I am extracting my wiring loom that got slightly burnt the other week.

Under the bonnet, it appears to have been rerouted through into the NS wing cavity. I say appears, as I can see the redundant harness retaining clips still in place along the chassis rail, so I guess that is its corrrect location. My loom enters the cavity under the wiper motor and then heads off to the front lights etc.

Anyone know if this is a recommended reroute? I am guessing whoever did it was concerned about the proximity of the exhaust manifold to the loom if clipped in its normal chassis rail location.

So, when I put the replacement loom in, should I keep it in the wing cavity or clip it in its (assumed) proper place?

    Cheers

Thanks guys! Mmmmm.... my Vin is LD249*** and first reg Oct 1973, dont know the build date yet.

I wonder if my loom was fitted in the wing from the factory? The harness clips are there on the chassis rail though, perhaps a PO has rerouted it into the wing like 73stagmans?

It is normal to have redundant clips on the Chassis rail, my '77 has them. I guess the same tooling was used to make the MKI and MKII chassis rails and they put the clips in place to keep the water out.

I think if Triumph could have come up with another route they would have done. The more the merrier and if it could cause more confusion and discussion in the future then they would have gone for it. Maybe inside the box section was the next place... fortunatley they stopped making them!

Mine is LD254** and the loom is inside the wing. I don't know when this became standard, but at a guess I would say around the LD20000 mark.

Thanks guys, it all adds to the journey up that learning curve!

I will route the replacement loom back through the wing.

My Mk1 had the loom routed through the wing but it is a Federal car so they may have always been different.

When I built my own wiring loom I routed them along the inside of the front wings to keep away from the exhaust manifolds. This applied to the main harness running from the dash/fusebox to the headlights, horns, indicators. I also rerouted the feeds from the battery to the ignition and fusebox along the inside of the drivers side wing.

                        Cheers

Hi Bruce, now its funny you say that, this afternoon the same idea entered my head! I had sussed out the heat transference issue and wondered if I should try to relocate the loom thats clipped to the offside chassis rail...................... will have a look tomorrow!

btw Bruce, no rain in the Crewe area today, whats that all about!!!!!!!

                            Hi Keith

Yeah we took the opportunity to get the stag out with the roof down! We had an 80 mile round trip to Sudbury Hall (National Trust) near Uttoxeter. We took the cross country route down through Betley, Stone and then the B5027 across to Uttoxeter. Nice to see some sunshine and feel the warmth.
