Black Stag

The publican at my local claims his brother owned the only black Stag which was built as a special order.
Does anyone know the whereabouts or history of this Stag?
I should think black would look great with the contrasting chrome and silver side stripe.

You are right Stag prototype X763 was matt black and used mainly for pave testing and eventually shook its self apart. Other stags have been painted black including one Triumph bought back to try fitting a Rover V8 in in the late 70's. There is also the stag that tickford modified in a big way from new, as to factory selling one that they painted black from new i dont know of any but it is possible if the car is known and commision number checked with B.M.I.H.T they will be able to confirm.

There was a black stag at the Trentham show a few weeks ago, I have seen several on ebay, and a bloke in my local had one with flared arches, sidepipes, and a Rover V8, but that was in the eighties.
They look very good in black, but having once had a black Dolomite, I couldn't face the polishing again!

There's a black one up the road from me in Pevensey Bay. I think the owner was on this forum a while ago.

I did see a Black Stag on a stand at the NEC some time in the 1980's. It looked awesome but having owned a black car once the awesomeness wears off about 15 minutes after you wash it!

One off my directors sent me pic's of a black stag at Cholmondeley (spelling?) this year, he was very impressed. Keeps saying mine should go black. Too much washing needed in my mind! steve
