    Subaru/Stag

Call memad orcrazy:shock:but Ive just been to a "drive it day" where you get to drive a Pro Drive Subaru WRX for 3 laps round a circuit, drove there in the Stag, and left in the Stag obviously and I have to say I prefer the Stag. Ok 3 laps aint a long time in a car but driving back in the Stag with the top down along some winding roads was far more enjoyable, perhaps I am crazy

    Dave,

Now that does sound crazy, I have just sold a WR1 Subaru (Only 500 WR1's ever made) and brought a Stag.

    But thats another story.

I cant quite see how a car designed to Rally and runs 320BHP and a 0-60 of 4.2 secs (thats what a WR1 is, bit quicker than a WRX) could be compared to a Stag.

I might be a bit of a newbie to the Stag world but given a track day I know that I would sooner be in the Subaru as thats more up its street.
Give me a nice A road and a sunny day with no need for a rush then yes the Stag wins hands down.

Gee in my case there is a thrill either way with the Subaru its the adrenalin rush and with the Stag its the question of whether I will make it, and from my other post you will see I never did quite make it lol

      Hi Steve

Agree with what you say but Ive had my Stag 12 years now, most problems ironed out (touch wood) although when I firstgot mine I ended up in a similar positionto you (blown engine)hope yours isn't as severe and you get it sorted.

The drive it day thing was very restricted and I guess if I could have taken the car out on my own there would have been no comparison in any way shape or form. However for open top motoring on quiet A roads you cant beat an on song Stag for engine noise and drivability, except maybe a nice TVR.

At the end of the day a modern GTI type motor could be bought for Stag money but for some reason and this forum is evidence of the fact that there's a few of us out there that stick with the Stag for whatever reason. I guess Im not the only crazy Stag owner around.

Have been out in a friends Scooby a few times - great fun but I think the novelty would soon wear off for me, have only had the stag a little while buteasily the better of the two as far as I am concerned but do not tell my mate I said that!

As steve says different cars for tracking and cruising. Love the stag when the suns out but wont forget the drive day i also had at pro drive, all free, as i bought one of the first Mazda RX8's we were invited down to get the feel of what the car could do, 130 plus around the track, 360's on the skid pan and breaking 'blind' at 100mph with no hands on the wheel:shock:, Now that was a buzz

Just to throw a spanner in the works, try a Landrover off road day. My daily drive is a Discovery and having done the off road day it will scare the living daylights out of you.

When the instructor first takes it out on a wet road and states have you tried to blast this thing round a round about flat out? You look puzzled and seem sheepish in response NO and why would I, I don't want to end up on the roof.
The instructor then picks the next roundy to do just what he stated and bloody hell it goes round like its on rails and we haven't even got to the off road stuff. It was amazing and well worth the day out.

            My wife loved it

Off road driving days are for girls! Giles and I used to race and trial a range rover special for twenty years. I was as fast as he was (sometimes faster - that used to get him going!!!). This resulted in a few crashes over the years trying to be the one to set the fastest time. My biggest crash was whilst doing a fast left I hit a rut and did a double three sixty roll, landing back on its wheels, my co-driver was getting out but I told him we were carrying on. He was muttering something about safety so I just unplugged the intercom. It took Giles six months to rebuild it - new roll cage, new front and rear screens, new fuel tank, 50% new bodywork etc. etc. Oh well kept him quiet. So if you want to be really frightenedoff roading, I would offer to take you out but we sold it all to get the stag.

Believe it or not he lets me drive the stag!!!!!
