With the sun belatedly shining I took my Stag (1973 auto electronic ignition in Magenta) out. Drove well, got back home, turned ignition off. Opened garage, went to start and nothing, no click. Tried it this morning and started straight away! Took it out again and the same thing happened! Has anyone any idea what is wrong and how to solve the problem? Thanks.

I am sure others have had different issues, wiring etc
.
With me with the no starter clicking syndrome (I was once caught out quite badly at a petrol station where I am sure the car started with luck more than anything else in the end!) it was down to the small terminal on the end of the starter motor being loose. When pushed in the car was fine. With some solder carefully applied to the terminal and the car has become a dependable starter.

I guess that you still get dash lights, radio and fuel pump powering up when it happens? I have been told that a faulty starter splendid malfunctions when hot, and works fine when cooler. No idea if that is true, but I think it more likely to be a bad connection in wiring to starter or the autobox inhibitir switch isn't shutting properly - try moving the gear selector about and putting it back in park to see if things change.
If you know how, wire a connection from battery direct to starter and that should get the starter cracking - make sure the car isn't in gear! Assuming the starter is ok, it should crank. Until you can resolve the real problem you could put a switch into the new wire and take it into the cabin, and use it to start it when the ignition key gives only silence.

Nothing 'splendid' about having a faulty starter!Originally posted by piscean57 View PostI guess that you still get dash lights, radio and fuel pump powering up when it happens?
