I have one of these and very pleased indeed. Have a few friends with the same and all happy with product. You can get a lead and it goes straight into cigar lighter. It can also be used for caravans and bikes

CTEK 7000. Great piece of kit. It also has a 12 volt output to keep memory alive when changing batteries.

What they said, but please note - a "trickle charger" is most definitely NOT what you want. You want a battery conditioner, which is what has been recommended.

Long term connection of a true trickle charger will boil your battery and kill it.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

Mine is a CSIAIRFLOW Automatic Battery Management Conditioner & Tester. It was manufactured by Airflow S.A. of Switzerland. I bought it from Rimmers quite some time ago now so may not now be on the market. It is one you can leave attached to the battery for any length of time. It has an automatic shut off facility when the battery is fully charged and will switch on again when the battery runs down. Look out for this when you make a purchase to avoid the problem mentioned by Wilf. I have never had any trouble with mine over the many years I have used it.

I bought mine a few years ago from Makro for around £20 and has worked fine.

Don't waste your money on the solar ones!

Mine discharges as well as charges so it keeps the battery 'alive' and is connected all the time the car is in my garage.

                  I bought this http://www.granadabatteries.co.uk/dz...500-p-674.html

(as recommended on the Discovery3 Forum) and it keeps my disco from flattening its battery if not used for a while. That takes some doing as once the disco is started it has to drive around 8 miles to put the charge used in starting, back into the battery. Plus when just parked up, its onboard devices consume the same amount of electricity as a small country. Lots of short trips therefore are not good in a disco!

This particular DZ panel is 7.75W, with 10W being the max for a solar panel connected to your car battery, or so I was told when looking into them a few months back. Over 10W and you need a gizmo box that stops your car from turning into a bonfire or similar. The cheapo solar panels come nowhere near the rating of the higher end ones like the DZ. I think there is a well known saying applicable here thats starts 'you only get.................
