    ZF Kickdown Cable - Adjustment?

I had my carbs off to change a leaking O ring and on putting it back together I am struggling to get the ZF kickdown cable right. As fitted by Clive it had a lot of slack in the cable and no means of adjusting it out, the cable end is fitted into a brass end and the outer cable is at the end of its thread into the supporting bracket. I tried tightening the bracket so that the cable end was as pointing vertically, this led to the car kicking down way too often and clunking into gear, I have now got it at about horizontal and it's nearly normal, I just want to know if there's some process I should be following beyond trial & error?

I've been thinking about this Ian, and if your man won't come up with a solution, it may be possible to cut the nipple off the end of the cable and use a solderless one, then alter the bracket so that the hole becomes U shaped to accept it. Martin.

This may help (Volvos and BMWs also use the 4HP22 gearbox) but in all honesty I could not really hear the click in my gearbox when following their method and resorted to trial and error, getting me the result I wanted, which is what Ashcroft Transmissions and my gearbox rebuilder seem to recommend.

We are a family owned business and have been supplying quality products and excellent customer service worldwide since 1988. We are currently open and operating as normal. However we currently have longer lead times than usual; the lead time for transmissions is around 4-5 weeks. Parts orders are being dispatched as normal. We ship worldwide.

thanks Chas, sounds like more trial & error required.

Yes mate, despite my visit to the HQ of the Hungarian AVO (secret police) on Andrassy Ut..... managed to escape the country with all my fingernails still intact.....

Hungarian dentistry is the absolute dogs goolies - the only time I have been treated decently in all my 53 years.... next visit in 3 months for upper jaw bone grafts, and I'm actually looking forward to going back!

You told me you liked being abused, is SWMBO aware of this?

Good to hear it all went well,

                    Bob

I was of course referring to the dental treatment, but being a Brighton resident, you should be the expert on abuse?
