Whatever your views on the Olympics, I thought that the opening was fantastic. Great entertainment. I lost interest when the athletes marched in, so many countries, bit like the area reports.
I thought the pile of soil with some scraggy turf on it, and the nurses pushing beds full of sick children around was very moving - not ! What about the poor squaddies, straight back from Afghanistan, leave cancelled 'cos this bollocks is more important, I'm ashamed, everyone else is more important than the folks at home. Sickening !
The Olympic rings coming together in centre field was pretty special. the Queen parachuting was pretty tacky.Overall I thought it was really good - if you like that sort of thing. But:
when is someone going to tell Paul McCartney that his voice has gone?
Celebrating the NHS?
Was Golden Balls driving the boat?
Rowan wasn't playing the keyboard but was funny anyway.
I thought that after the Fake Games in Bejing they'd have avoided this kind of thing.
I see that Martin remains unimpressed - what do you expect for 11 Billion quid?
Nick
I thought parts of the Ceremony was a bit naff in places, but as a Londoner, from Wembley I'm very proud that my city is hosting the games again, yes it's a lot of money spent but the transformation of Stratford and that part of Hackney is fantastic, especially as it was quite a bit of a **** hole in the first place...... Easy Martin, I think the country will do a great job (although the North & South Korean flags were mixed up at the womens football on Thursday)
Not too sure about how well the move from rural to industrial worked and dancing nurses / Mary Poppins and children choirs should always be avoided. I think we could certainly have done without Dozy B*astard, sorry I mean Dizzy Rascal, and Paul the Singing Lizard McCartney.
Even watching from a box in my living room I thought it was spectacular, I imagine being there was mind blowing. Britain needs more of this kind of thing to lift its spirits, and boost confidence.
We are having a family party today, but we are locked in the middle of the road race, so how do our visitors get in and out??? I know of one route, but its not easy to see how to cross the route. They say that they may take several hours to re-open the roads, but hoping it will not be too long.
After breakfast we are off to watch Mark C and Brad the team race through out town. Lets hope they get the result.
