    Storing Heads

Ive got a pair of head I want to make sure stay in good condition.
They will be stored in my dry, damp free garage, but was wondering how to wrap them up.was thinking of covering them with spray grease then put them into bin bags.

    Any thoughts appreciated

    Cheers Steve

I would have thought that grease them up well and wrap in grease proof paper. will they not sweat in bin bags?

spray or paint with an oxide inhibitor and store in plain paper in a wooden box with silica gel packs ,should be sufficient ,and take them out and check them every 50 yrs or so.

If they're good heads, I could offer to store them for you. I would keep them warm, with all of the moving parts regularly coated in oil. Additionally, I could ensure that the moving parts like camshafts and valve stems are periodically "exercised" to avoid them sticking. I would fill all of the water passages with an anti-corrosion inhibitor and ensure that it is periodically pumped through to avoid any build up of sediment. Furthermore, to ensure that no distortion creeps in, I would clamp them to a firm and flat iron surface.

That's really kind drew ,would I have to pay you for this service? They haven't been skimmed so they will be heavier so you may want to charge me a greater handling charge.lol

And I guess I should decompress the valve springs.

                  Steve,

Just a thought, what about the storage bags you can buy that you evacuate with a vacuum cleaner.

Lots of oil, exclude oxygen and moisture.

                    Simples.

I'D coat them in waxoyl, easy to apply and remove. I've stored many engine parts like this for years.

I wouldn't wory about the springs unless you are an incredible optomist and dont think you'll need the heads in the next 50yrs, lol,
