    Drive Shaft Alternatives

Looking to overhaul and/or replace the drive shafts on my MK2 Stag, have read about the "Rislan" coated shafts and the "Datsun" half shaft modifications, however recent research uncovered another option from the USA, Goodparts; http://www.goodparts.com/shop/index.php?categoryID=20 They have been supplying uprated drive shafts for TRs for a number of years using CV joints, they are available for stags too... rated to 300bhp - might be overkill for my mainly "stock" Stag and a little pricey at 950 GBP for a pair including new hubs with uprated bearings etc. However for those with modified Stags it might be worth a look.

Back to my main point, any thoughts on the "Rislan" coated shafts availble from a number of UK suppliers?

Can an AC heater box be adapted to work with cables rather than the vacuum system ??

I own a US 73 AC Stag, now non AC, and am trying to see if anyone has changed a heater that is vacuum driven over to the cable system,or knows if it is possible?. I now have a manual heater control box,but if it is possible to marry the two systems, remove the vacuum bits and pieces and connect up the three cables to the AC/Heater box, or do I have to obtain a non AC heater box? I can get heat with mine but the flaps are really not working to distribute the heat into the car.
If I have to remove the heater unit from the car then I suppose it would be easier to just change it over to a non AC box,but if the Stag gurus out there have any other way I could do it I would be very grateful.
Spring and late fall can be somewhat nippy here in Canada and my wife would love to have some heat in the car,and to make my life a little easier, I want to oblige her !!!

Given how long the original shafts have lasted, why not just buy a new pair for £195 on eBay, they are fitted with a grease nipple now too.

I fitted GKN rilsan coated driveshafts years ago and have probably done something like 40,000 miles or so on them.

They transformed the handling (I really hadn't realised how badly the originals were locking up - I guess you just get used to it) and are as good today as when they were new.

The originals will last forever, it's just a question of how long they will perform well. Every single IRS Triumph I have ever driven (quite a few) has suffered from some degree of driveshaft lockup and as I cover a reasonable mileage I decided to go for the modern technology - I really didn't want to start getting the lock-up back after a few years.

I have the GKN Rilsan shafts and have also covered over 40,000 miles with them. The previous twitch completely disappeared and the handling was improved beyond all recognition...

Thanks Gents for your thoughts, GKN Rislan coated seems a good choice price vs durability and handling.

              Cheers,
