    Whats this please?

I suspect its my oil pump... its located to the rear of the oil filter

    Can any one confirm

Reason for asking is I'm trying to findsource of a drippingoil leak. The oil as far as I can see is accumulating on and dripping offthe bottom bolt of this component. Thought at first it was a loose oil sender but cleaned that and tightened it, Are there any other nearby likely culprits or is this component suseptible to leaks. Predicting your answers is it easy to replace... recondition

    Thanks

    David

    Hi David

I have exactly the same leak on my Stag, so it must be common. I too have not yet worked out where it is coming from!

Drive a Stag every day... it's wonderful!

clean it all off and run the engine after its got hot turn the engine off and see if you have a leak from here, it could be the o ring between the block and the canister,ar thereis one on the bolt, also oil acn drip from the pressure sender and find its way down here, there were some dodgy oil pumps so if yours is working but leaking it may be worth rebuilding yours than buying a new/recon one.

        Thanks Brian/Nick

Its an annoying leak rather than a pressure losing one, just means its drips onto hot exhaust when running and onto drive when stationary

Degeased the whole area then up on ramps and power washed (most went on me)

Ran the engine and I'm pretty certain its not the sender unit, and not oil filter.Seems to be originating from the top of the pump where it meets the block but really can't see in there without mirrors or some MI5 pokey round corners spy cam thingy. I think whatever course of action exhaust downpipe has to come off

Usually its coming out of the half moon at the back of the head under the cam cover, it runs down and gives the impression of being the oil pump leaking, try tightening up your cam covers first.

My Stag hasthe Fred Flintstone option, I look through the holes in the floor, these holes are also used for propulsion and braking.

Australia is a very safety conciouscountry, you even have to wear a helmet to go to the toilet.

                  regards,

                  Raoul

I have the same kind of leak. It does look as if its from the top of the oil pump, but the transfer housing is just above it and could also be the culprit. Sender seems fine. O ring sets for both are available and cheap. Total of £3.85 inc VAT and postage from LD Parts. I have use of a garage lift tomorrow and will replace both, especially if I have to drop the exhaust. The workshop manual says it is simple. It looks simple, but at the end of the day its a Stag. See recent post "Easy to fit these parts" esp Krytens posts.

The leak could also be from the oil pressure sender unit of course, mine leaked badly from the end and needed replacing.
