3 amazing things in one day.......

Had an amazing afternoon. Three miracles one after another:

    1. Went to collect the Stag from my friendly garage, and this was the picture outside !

One is his wife's, one belongs to the guy in the next door workshop, and the middle one is mine.

    2. I survived my first 100 mile journey to St Andrews with no problems other than indicators have packed up ! Fantastic drive with the roof down.

    3. The sun is shining in Scotland !

Going to enjoy the weekend, but any suggestions on indicators welcome. Hazard lights working fine. Gong to check flasher unit and earth wires - does that sound logical ? And why would they pack up en route ?

If all of the indicators have stopped working, but the hazards still work, try the flasher unit. Either behind the passenger parcel shelf (careful the hazard flasher is there too) or tucked on top of the steering column just below the front edge of the dash. Cheap things to replace, get one corrrectly rated for the three bulbs it runs.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

I'd fit an electronic flasher unit - one of the more sensible things I've done on my Stag.

Get one of these - or similar:

I actually got mine out of a scrap car dumped in a local car park.
Basically you're replacing a two pin unit with a three pin one - using the existing two connections and adding a cable to earth for the extra pin (not complicated).

Make an earth wire to a good earthing point and put it on terminal 31
With a test lamp (or multimeter) switch the ignition on and find the permanant live to your current flasher relay, connect to pin 49
Then the other wire connect it to the remaining pin 49a

Then - your indicators will flash at the same speed all the time ;-)

        Good luck.

Thanks Adrian. I have found it is indeed the flasher unit this morning and am hoping to get one from Halfords, via my daughter, but I'll take your advice and get an electronic one.
