Inspired by Chris's article in the SOC Magazine "HOT STUFF" this month I got me wondering if you could fit a coolant alarm to the Stag cooling system without having to fit a Header Tank, a Header Tank certainly brings additional benefits with extra coolant for the cooling system, but for those of us who like a factory look to our engine bay an audible warning device that would tell us when the top hose and hence the water pump is dry would provide that extra piece of mind and most importantly the opportunity to shut off the motor before irreperable damage occurs to the heads etc. Well thats the idea anyway, surprisingly such a device is available from a couple of sources, however the most desrete comes in the form of a probe that is fitted under the top hose much in the same way that some electric fan thermostats are, or you can utilise a fitting placed in the hose (this requires cutting 17 mm slice ot of the top hose) Anyway I opted for this option, and I'm very pleased with the result, both a dash mounted warning light (where seat belt light is fitted on UK Stags) and a warning buzzer that can be heard with the top down.
