The Avro Vulcan takes to the skies again

Making a welcome return to the skies for Eastbourne Airbourne today, a plane that is so graceful and powerful at the same time. I wish my Stag sounded like it.

Great pictures of two lovely icons.

Can anyone explain to me why the Vulcan has camouflage paint on its underside? Surely it would be better to have painted the underside sky blue/grey?

        Regards

Saw the Vulcan fly at the Goodwood FoS in 2010, amazing thing.

Apparently it flew all the way from Doncaster so was seen by lots of people on its way here. It will be at Shoreham Airshow on 1st/2nd September for anyone going with West Sussex Area.

Great, something to really look forward too. I also saw it flying at F.O.S. in 2010, fantastic sight.

The first time I saw it was at Finningley Air Show, in the 70's with my Dad.
It flew past overhead, then opened it bomb doors before almost flying up vertically. My jaw just dropped and 'wow' came out of my mouth!

I'm lucky enough to live in Dunsfold, about a mile and a bit from the airdrome where the "Wings and wheels" airshow is held (and Top Gear!). One sunday a few weeks after the show, we were out doing gardening etc when we heard a huge racket form the airfield .. went out to have a look. Through the trees we could see the Vulcan being given a bit of stick. Half a wing now and then above the trees as it banked to do what seemed like quite tight turns. Then it flew up a bit so we got a good view, around in a large circle and that was that. Amazing ! Free vulcan display! Guess they were testing it or something. How the hell domes something like that stay in the air? watching it do the turns through the trees was like watching some spaceship or something. :-D
