    Why?

I have had a year of trouble free motoring in the stag but after parking yesterday she drove for 200 yards then fuel starvation. No electrics at the pump and no amount of thumping would spark the fuel pump into life. the AA man rigged a feed to get me home and when I got my thinking head on after looking at the wiring diagram it pointed to the fuel cut off thingmy jig. Yes the cap was up and power was cut I pushed it down and all is well for the moment.

Is it possible for this to activate with the ignition off and keys out and no damage or detectable touching of the car. Or was it sabotage by persons unknown with a sense of humour not appreciated by me.

comments please ( and yes I was disappointed the AA did not sort it. )

    Hi Peter,

This thing is designed to operate in the event of a sudden stop (collision) or overturn. It is simply a heavy ball-bearing that moves upwards and dislodges the plunger, breaking the circuit. It can't operate without movement unless someone lifts the plunger deliberately.

I guess if you went over a speed bump too quickly it could operate but then you would also know about it.... some one playing silly games probably. At least you know it works!

Perhaps when you was parked up a large person bumped into your stag whilst trying to get past

Blimey that sounds nasty - worse than not having a cut-out at all ! Which I haven't - someone in the past has #optimised it out' and just shorted the connections. Not sure how I feel about that..

I once had the same thing on my PI saloon, drove into the car park fine, upon turning the ignition on build pressure in the PI system before starting, silence from the pump.
The cap was up on the inertia switch, no idea why, reset it and it never happened again. I can only assume that a previous bump of some description had left the switch teetering on the edge of shutting off, and maybe heat soak from the engine tipped it over the edge.
I wouldn't worry about it, you won't get caught the same way again!
