    Evans waterless coolant

A big sales push this weekend at Malvern, and I think it is great, with a header tank, you could actually run without a pressure cap!
BUT, £100 for two bottles (10lt) and £35 for a pre flush, it's a bit expensive! If you found a leak, you would be under the car with a sauce pan in no time to catch every last drop!
Would love to know the chemical composition, but the sales guy was not going to tell me!
    Cheers,
    Mike

This is what confuses me they claim Lifetime performance and savings.

    • Evans Waterless Heavy Duty Coolant will last the life of the engine, as long as it does not become contaminated by water.

But it is Hygroscopic Describing the ability or tendency of a material to take up moisture readily from the surrounding air or other moist materials.
So A perfect system will be required.
If you Drain the system it needs to be put in a sealed container then it could be reinstalled.

Assuming that you already have enough money to have bought absolutely every last thing in the whole world that you desired, with some for spares, then your next purchase should be some of this............

There, I believe I have explained my feelings about this product to my personal satisfaction.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

Seems like the real benefit to me is the fact that you will reduce/eliminate the potential for rust/contamination caused by water. In my area (Thames) the water is very hard. You only have to look inside the kettle to give yourself nightmares about what could be washing around the engine!

Simple answer for hard water Richard, and much less expensive than the Evans product: 'Distilled Water'. Its magic!

Fortunately we live in a soft water area, no scale at all even in a ten year old kettle, I can sell you some if you wish!
If you live in an hard water area the water from a dehumidifier is free and readily available, done myself out of a sale!

Back to the Evans, the benefits are good but the cost is high, the profit margin will be very good. But if you start comparing the cost to premium synthetic oil, and a fill up at the pumps which can top £100 easily these days with a big car.

Too bloody true I've got an MPV and it is ALWAYS over £100 to fill up.

Re the Evans coolant - this has appealed to me but I reckon one of the main benefits is that, because the boiling point is so high, there is no need to pressurise the system anything like as much. Ie less cause for leaks etc.

                Cheers

Judging from the marketing personnel in attendance, the margins must be huge. 135 pounds is a lot even these days. However a stag is quite a good contender for the stuff.

Here's a thing to think about.

We are very used to watching for, and dealing with, (sometimes ahead of a major issue developing) the "warning signs" we get from the use of water in our cooling systems - steam, water where it shouldn't be, over pressurisation etc. All these symptoms are well known, well documented, and the diagnostics using them are pretty much sorted.

Remove the water and replace it with a synthetic, far higher boiling point liquid, is going to eliminate every lst one of those warning signs..........

This is the root cause of my problems with this product. And yes I know you would still have the temp gauge, but they too can fail, and not help you just when you need it. I had that exact scenario in another car once - temp gauge failed 2 minutes before a core plug fell out!
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.
