"Garmin Sat Nav" not stag related

Hi Guys does anyone have a Garmin sat nav?. i am trying to get to grips with it but i'am strugging, when i put in a town it asks for a street but if you only want to vist a town, you do not know a street name, my sat nav in my Merc you can pick the town centre , my question is can you do the same with the garmin?. Also the routes seem to be confusing, in the merc it,s shortest or fastest, but the garmin seems confusing, (along way back from malvern).

Or should i change it for a Tom Tom, the Garmin is a 2595, with life time traffic and map updates.

    thanks in advance

My Mum has a Garmin. You're right you have to have the full address. I've got a Tom Tom much better.

Hi Martin, in mine, I just put in post code / town etc, then press "done". Martin.

M&M I have a Garmin and assume screens are broadly similar.T get to a town: Select Where TO. Screen then shows six options but use the down arrow on the bottom line to scroll and you will see CITIES. In Garmin speak a CITY is a city, town, or village etc. Coordinates is also an option on that screen.

You can set your route preferences in a limited way... Tools on first screen, then Settings, followed by Navigation. and see all options within Route Preferences and Avoidances.
Hope this helps. The basic instructions I got with with it were almost useless.

Long time TomTom user, got a Garmin because it had more map coverage (I travel a lot outside the UK).
Got rid of it again because of stupidities like being told a street name I was exiting onto from a roundabout - TomTom tells you where the exit is signposted for (much easier to spot a signpost than a street name).

Not 100% TomTom IQ routes is brilliant, but would take TomTom over Garmin every time.

Thanks Brian , it seems that when i use as you suggested, menu- towns, i get the centre, which is what i wanted, because if you want to just visit a place you do not know the street names, so cannot in-put them, thanks again.
