    Bw35 atf

Hello, I am a Stag newbie, have just purchased 1974 original auto car.

I need to add some transmission fluid. I know that Dexron is supposed to be bad for the old BW transmissions. I have purchased some Halfords own brand "Ford ESP M2C 166H" fluid - definitely non-Dexron. Will this be OK in my gearbox does anyone know or think?? I don't need to add that much I don't think.

    Thanks

    Chris

If it helps, I have same age car, I use Comma which is Ford ESP- M2C-33F/G spec, got it from local accessory shop. Even says on the label, suitable for Borg Warner transmissions.

AQF fluid only. Available from the likes of Paddocks. Using other fluids can result in misbehaviour as they all have differing slip/friction characteristics. Comma does one.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

As what the rest said. That spec of Ford oil has some Dextron qualities or at least when I bought it for an old Ford of mine .

Comma AQF is the stuff you want (it adheres to the Ford M2C-33F/G (aka Type F or G) fluid) as do Unipart stores (at quite a price). Near me, only 2 motor factors stock it, with almost all of them trying to fob you off with 'Dextron has superseded the lot' statement. I did have a statement sheet discussing this somewhere within the old threads.

Absolutly right Chas, Dexron will screw an unmodified box and if your not 150% sure dont use Dexron IMO Ford spec fluid won't harm a modded box anyway. I can only buy Dexron here so I have bring it over what a pain
