    So long old friend

After 18 years of ownership, today we sadly parted with Sam Stag. He was bought to replace my TR6 which couldn't accommodate our babies, and 18 years later they're not interested anymore, so off he went to a family who I'm sure will get as much trouble free motoring as we did.His new owners did not have any space to store the Hardtop so I reduced the car price (alot) and the Hardtop is still in our garage where it has been dry stored for 18 years. I have placed for sale details for this and a box full of spares on the For Sale page.

After 18 wonderful years, here are my thoughts on various topics that have been discussed on the forum recently, you can either dismiss themas the deluded mutterings of an ex-owneror pay a bit of heed and save yourself a pound or two.

1)What oil should I use? - Duckhams 20/50 £8.99 a litre. You're wasting your money on anything else.

    2) My diff whines - Seems like most of them do. Speed up or slow according to road conditions, but dont spend a fortune on trying to stop the whine.

    3) My diff leaks - Unblock the breather, if it still leaks, keep topping it up. Again, dont spend a fortune trying to stop it. At least you'll always have fresh oil in it.

    4) My power steering leaks. Use STP/Winns/Slick 50 StopLeakin a 50/50 mix. It cured mine 10 years ago and hasn't leaked since.

    5) Dont let a potential buyer bring a 'mechanic friend' to look at your car. Mostmechanics have a chip on their shoulder and feel obliged to criticise.

    6) Some smart arse at a Classic Car show tells his mate about how all Stags overheat - We've all been there, lets start a thread about what our retort was!

Wishing you all many more miles of trouble free motoring. I'm off to polish the 2chromeless lumps of fibreglass that now reside where Sam once proudly stood.

    Regards, Andrew

Fair enough to your comments, but I don't understand why you sold the car just 'cos your kids have grown up? Unless your getting a TR6 again!

      Kevin,

Been there got the T Shirt (and the hat) still. The Stag was just not getting used & we've gone for a his 'n' hers combo - I've got a 37 year old Gold Leaf Lotus Elan Sprint. STMBO has a blue over white S1 Elise. Fair hey? Suppose it could be worse - I could have a wife without a car gene.

      Regards, Andrew

          Hi Andrew

Sorry to read youve sold your stag.

Question 6- If you tell them the reason they overheat is because people use the wrong type of power steering fluid it confuses them and they P**s off.
