    K - Seal

    Just looking on ebay for K-Seal. What's the difference between K-Seal Solv-Tec and K-Seal Kalimex. Or even K-Seal HD Kalimex?

    That's the trouble with ebay, you never really know if it is genuine or not - I could be buying a bottle of runny porridge for all I know!

    One of these photo's has definitely been photoshopped!

    I'm going to answer my own question!

    Kalimex are based in East Sussex, Solv-Tec are based in New Jersey so I guess one is a subsiduary of the other. - Their respective websites are as good as identical too.

    The HD version is the same just a bigger bottle!

        I am fearing the worst, but hoping for the best. The ol' girl is pressurising her coolant system.

        I took the cap of the expansion bottle the weekend after the IWE and there was still pressure in it and water pouring out of the bottle. I would guess that i put around a pint and a half of cooland back in hte top of the rad.

        Oddly though, I did 30 miles or so last night and the level in the coolant bottle was down this evening. Very odd. I have checked the head studs/bolts this evening and they were all solid and torqued down to 60lbf which should be more than enough. I did a block test on it yesterday as well, and that seems to be clear, although it was a bit rushed. I am a little confused at the moment. All I can do really is chuck a bottle of K-Seal in it and see how she goes. Otherwise I might be delving into the innards of my engine like I never have before!

        P.S. - Just realised that after Malvern I am now the proud owner of a T shirt with effectively 'I Wee' written on it!

            if you find time I have a block tester kit which you can borrow, or pop dwn to edenbridge and we will test it

            takes all the guess work out

              Hi Alan,

              I have got a block tester - the fluid one where the purple fluid turns yellow. I bought it when my head gaskets went last time - around three years ago. It seems to be ok, but there was air bubbling up through it and that has got to come from somewhere! It could have been expansion as the engine was warming up at the time I suppose.

              Watch this space!

              I must come and have a nosey around your workshop sometime and see where all the action is!

                1/ how does a block tester work, and how do you use it
                2/ where do you get them from
                3/ can you damage the head gaskets buy using one

                only asking as iv'e not heard of one before

                  Hi Dave,

                  its just a chemical that you put in a device and then stick the device into the coolant filler or header tank. You squeeze a rubber ball not unlike a doctors blood pressure device and it draws gas from the cooling system through the liquid. if the liquid changes colour then there are exhaust gasses in the cooling system (head gasket failure) and if not, your problem is elsewhere.

                  Frosts do the kit in the UK

                  it cannot do any damage!

                    I had a good try at getting one for big fat blokes, but they'd sold them all, guess I'm not the only one, some comfort I suppose. I'm guessing Dave is about an "M", not nearly big enough. Good luck Dave, I can't think of a nicer bloke. Martin.

                      You need the water level in hte radiator to be fairly low or wou will just draw water up into it!

                        Who are you talking about? not me surely! If you are, thank you and you're not so bad yourself! I think you should stick to Malvern's 'Saturday T-shirt'. I thought it was great!

                        (Bottle of K-seal in the Stag now, going to chance a 115 mile run to the New forest shortly and see how it goes! ...All or bust!)
