Width of tonneau cover and wings

    Hi,
finishing stripping my car car tonight to commence body repairs this w'end and noticed the fit from tonneau to the front locking catches looks iffy. If I can i'd like to rectify it now.

Can anyone give me measurements of, max at front of tonneau and from top corner of wing to wing just behind chrome locking plates.

Maybe it's just the build quality off so many 70's british cars but it's as if the tonneau is too narrow or the wings too wide.

You might a picture or a sketch of exactly what dims you need to ensure the measurements are compatible.

Last month I noticed that the RH horseshoe was cracked so ordered replacement.
When I came to fit the replacement I noticed that the tonneau cover did not sit central in the aperture between the back wings.
I loosened the bolts which attach the tonneau cover to the hinges and found that I could only make a slight adjustment, not enough to achieve a cental fit.
Having made this adjustment, I realised that I had moved the position of the catch into which the soft-top latches which caused another problem.

Your final paragraph is spot on. 70s build quality is to the nearest half inch.

My advice is to be flexible and compromise on all relevent adjustments to achive the best overall result / appearance.

Here here, MG used to boast that the MGB was hand built, it had to be, every bolt, passed through an oval, so that bits could be moved about till they fitted, the Stag builders followed the same philosophy, you're spot on Steve, if it doesn't fit, it probably hasn't since it was new. Doesn't stop me loving it though Martin.

Yeah they're all slightly different with the early mk1's being particularly bad
