    Mk1 to Mk2 fan conversion

    I'm a new Stag owner and have recently converted the cooling system from Mk1 to Mk2 including a new Mk2 PAS crankshaft pulley. It has the Mk2 VC and new fan. If I have the newer pulley, I won't need the spigot - is that correct? The fan sits nicely in its space without the spigot, but with it, the fan tries to eat the radiator. I haven't started the engine after all this, just wanted to check first that the arrangement is sound. If so, I have two spare spigots!

    good luck with the car, there is a difference in the spigot between mk1 and mk2,i think you do need to have the spigot in place,at some time your car has probably had a new rad fitted, and thats why there is know space between the fan and rad,

    when i fitted an uprated rad to mine i had to have the spigot machined to give me space so i could replace the belts without taking the rad out every time

      It appears to have a Mk2 rad, but it's still the 3 core model. I'm not sure a machined spigot would help??

        if you have the spigot machined it closes the gap between the viscous unit and the pulley,then the fan is further away from the rad,just a thought is your fan fitted the right way round

            Pictures of set-up

            Ok, now I'm getting worried. Can you see the set-up in these pictures? There is a Mk 2 PAS pulley, and the VC sits on its flange, but (and this bothers me) only halfway through the VC centre hole. The crankshaft bolt feels nice and tight. Hope I load the pictures right.

              You're a long way from home - How do you like the winters? I spent 20 years in Ottawa and the novelty wore off... eventually!

                Winters are ok, if you are inside, just very, very long! We're still in winter, when the daffodils are blooming in the UK. Summers are great though - but too short!! I don't miss the damp!!! But I hear NZ is wonderful.
