LD150 or below? If your Stag's Commission Number fits that, read on ...

If you have a Stag with a Commission Number below LD150 and have not previously shared your cars details with me, I am keen to read from you (more securely) via chris@liles.co.uk I am steadily compiling details of those first 150 cars - in strict confidence - on my Early Stag Register. This is not an official SOC initiative, merely for my own interest in response to owning LD112. However, several SOC luminaries know of my research and seem to approve. I intend it as a resource for eventual sharing with our SOC Registrar (currently our joint Membership Secretary, Peter Robinson) - not with 'lesser' persons, to respect the security of all contributors.

Details I am gathering include: Commission no. / Registration no. / Body no. / Engine no. / Build Date / Registration Date / Body Colour / Interior Colour / Gearbox / History snippets.

I have quite extensive information up to LD100 but the next 50 are quite patchy. Once I am satisfied it is indeed your car you are writing about, I may be able to share some of my accumulated information about your pre-LD150 car with you from the range of sources I have approached, or who have approached me in the past.

TIP: If you email me, to avoid becoming deleted in my Spam Filter, please head your email clearly e.g. Early Stag Register. Then I can easily differentiate it from the regular offers of medical enhancement and millions of pounds via Ugandan solicitors.

Chris - to help stem the flow of medicinal and other offers, never put your email address onto a forum post in its correct form, as things called "web-bots" regularly go looking for email addresses so displayed. Just type it as : chrisATliles.co.uk and everyone will know what you mean, and the web-bots won't.

Good tip wilf, I will remember that, grateful thanks. I have had that e-address for many years and it seems like I have heard from most of the spammers anyway! Now down to only 20-ish spam/day, once hit 1,000/day for short period!

PS I like the phrase in your e-signature ... can I nick it for my Stag mag's Norfolk Area Thought of the Month sometime? I will credit you as being the provider.

            LD129 information request

Hi 'Apples24' re: 'mine says ld129' - then I guess your registration number includes S?? 8?? (I will not quote the full number for your security).

If so, I have very little info on your Stag and will be pleased to add you to my Register. If you agree, the sort of details I am interested in are: Body no. (on narrow rectangular plate/s on body close to nearside bonnet hinge) / Engine no. / Build Date / Registration Date / Body Colour / Interior Colour / Gearbox / History snippets. I am also interested to know your SOC membership number & which part of the UK you are in - I do have that information but it was last updated in 1979!

If you agree, please reply via chrisATliles.co.uk (written per Wilf's tip earlier in this thread) and head your email Early Stag Register. Do NOT reply via this Forum thread since you would be giving away information to potentially allow your car to be cloned.

            Thanks and kind regards, Chris.

                        Hi all.
                        - Noted re LD108, knew very little about this car, sad if Martin Dimmick did indeed break it. How long ago was that Andy? Interested in any old info you can recall now - suggest via chrisATliles.co.uk for security to avoid giving out potential cloning details.
                        - Sorry about LD152, had to draw a line somewhere! Numberism it is indeed Goldstar - interesting though eh?!
                        - Apples24 contacted me separately and his Commission Number is indeed 5 numerical digits long starting with 129. So, fits with being a K plate since start of 1972 Model Year was LD 10004. Incidentally, start of 1973 Model Year was 20001 and first car built in 1971 was LD 748.

Anyone else with a pre-150 car then?

Did not spot apples24's reply above when I wrote my 20.05 response. I did this exercise for LD112. Tip: prepare a Word file (to use for all letters - you will only get postal addresses) with at least one photo of the car. If it looks really sad and you say you plan to restore it, you are likely to get a better response to encourage you. I predict a 50% response if you are lucky since people die/move. I have had numerous phone calls over recent years with several previous owners and built a fascinating history file which will enhance my Stag's value - if I ever sell it!

REG no was YHU 999J it was owned by a friend of mine from about 1980 [fitted with a P6 rover engine] and in a garage for appox 20 years before we pulled it out and he put it in a field with the rest of his cars for another 5 years till I got it in about 2004, it needed everybody panel changing [ because of damage] and a bit of rust, but the underneath was still all painted red and like new believe it or not. I do have pics of it here
