CCTV - non stag related in a way

    Hi All

We are thinking about installing a CCTV system, preferably one that works in both daylight and the dark. Can any of you recommend a system to use, and advise on any pitfalls etc? Obviously price is a consideration as it is for our house, not business use.

This posting's link to the Stag is tenuous but the cctv will help to protect it I suppose

    Thanks in advance

    Bruce

Ther are various ones about Bruce, and they seem to come with DVRs built in - my local Costco had a kit with 4 cameras and DVR for just over £300 a short while back - I'm pretty sure it could also be accessed by the internet so that you could have a re-assuring peek at the Stag in the drive when on holiday or whatever.

I was toying with the idea so that I could keep an eye on the moggies when I'm away....

I was thinking the other day that it would be a good idea to have a CCTV camera pointing at my Stag, but it would need to have a good zoom on it. I want to catch the S**t that keeps burning holes in my car cover with cigarette ends! Any thoughts?

        Rgds

If that was happening to me I would hide/wait all day if necessary until I catch the idiot then ..........................what is the sentence for ABH without intent ?. And I am not joking.

Trouble is, it only happens occasionally, probably about 20 holes over three years! No damage to the car yet thank goodness.

Generally 2-4 years, knock a third of the sentence off if it s your first offence, but that coud be added back on depending on the degree of planning you applied (more fore-thought = greater sentence), use of a weapon pushes you higher up the range.
You would be far better off responding spontaneously to the situation with appropriate force

For cameras I would go for the Vantage antivandle IR dome camera as the work very well in low to zero lux.
Secondly buy the best quality DVR you can there are some very good ones on the market for about £180 for this price they will have a USB media outlet rather than DVD burner, most DVRs now come with the facility to remote view via a iPad or iPhone but if you want this feature ask you ISP for a static Ip as you will find without one sometimes you can't log in as you router changes ip address.

If you are after a kit COP do one for about £300 - £400

                Hope this helps

I was told colour was essential as is a notice stating the cctv is for safety and security purposes for any evidence it provides to be admisable in a court, cctv is a good idea and I'm have similar thoughts.

                    Andrew.
You are not required by law to have a sign on your house if you have CCTV even if it looks over a public area as there is an exemption in the DPA for domestic property's.
Colour is better and most cameras now are colour also make sure you get a camera with a 520 TVL

Good,I didn't want to put a sign up,it would suggest there may be more to be had than there actually is. Still I will go ahead with the cctv.

                      Thanks,Andrew.

Cooo, thanks guys for all the replies. Some of the comments are getting a bit technical for me though. How long will 500GB of space last if connected up to four cameras? Do the cameras only record if they detect motion?

                        Thanks

CCTV will also deter most people from coming onto your property, I've got six cameras on my house linked to a 9 channel DVR with view linked to my intruder alarm so if the alarm activates it kicks the DVR into the highest quality record for 15 minutes and mails me snap shots to my phone from the cameras where the redwalls have been activated but I begged borrowed most of the kit over a number of years.

Depends on what frame rate you record at and how many cameras you have 25fps is about average. Most DVRs have the facility for motion detect.

500gb with four cameras on constant record at 25fps 2-3 weeks
