    Attaching speedo cable to gauge

Ok, another probably very simple question, but please excuse me; I'm not blessed with the Y chromosome. Hubby is the 'hired muscle' when I can't undo/tighten something - which happens often. I might need to 'hire' him for this job too.

I've had the dash out to replace the heater matrix and have put everything back together. But I can't get the cable to attach, it's a tight reach and the thing that tightens the cable onto the gauge is hard to place. Sorry i don't know the proper names for bolts, screws etc; it's more 'doohickey' and 'thingy' in my world.

    Thanks again

tanya, check the routing of the cable behind the dash, there should be enough slack to allow the dash to come forward to connect the cable. you may have it hooked over something, mine runs on the seat side of the de mister tube from the entry up towards the speedo, I usualy get to it from the bottom of the dash

    good luck, derek

Yes, it was caught up behind the demister hose, and I rerouted it as you describe. Hubby will try later and see if he has the strength to hold cable in place and screw the thing together at the same time. I wondered if I was missing something. I've tried from behind and with panel down, but each way has its own difficulties.
      Cheers

        Hi Tanya,

try from underneath the panel, the cables are just long enough, stand your panel upright and try putting your hand underneath, behind, this will tilt it upwards a little, then screw the thingy on to the wotsit, hahaha, sorry, the collar has to be parallel to the back of the gauge, oh and make sure it is the last thing you fit, because of the lack of space, because of the screwthread it's very difficult to do up from above if you catch my drift, i know some people have fitted a 90 degree elbow to ease the fitting, you can also try it blind by putting your hand behind the dash itself, from underneath, with the panel just pushed into position

        hope this helps
