Just got back from the rolling road and then collected my 4 speed box.
It turns out that no re-jetting was needed, just had to adjust the mixture screws that take care of the idle mixture. It was too lean initially but now, of course everything is fine.
I had 156.5bhp @4983rpm before the adjustment and now I've got 170 @ 5042
Also 177.1 lb ft @ 3799rpm and then 188.5lb ft @ 4243 rpm.
So an improvement over the standard 145bhp, not sure off-hand what the original torque figure is, or whether I was getting that with my old Strombergs:?But anyway it feels more responsive and drives really well, so I'm pretty chuffed now
I'll post a pic of the graph later, I'm on the wrong computer right now.
I've also picked up from SOC, a new fuel filter and longer pipe ( thanks Nick) and a LHD throttle cable. Plus a new rear crank oil seal, as Bob recommended on another thread.
Thanks!

These figure sound good Kev, I suppose the tubular manifold helps this figure?
Just for interest one of the cars in the Worcs club has what looks from the outside to be a Standard Stag engine complete with Stromberg's but has got Titanium high lift camshafts and has been dynamically balanced on the crankshaft. This engine kicks out 198BHP at the rear wheels apparently!

Stuart
I think you're right about the manifolds helping a bit.
I'm not sure I would want to tune any more with a 30+ plus year old engine, I especially wouldn't want to push the peak power further up the rev range. I wonder what revs are needed to get 198bhp?
I might in the future get the inlet manifold modified to improve breathing, but that is not top of my list right now. I feel like between spending on the new house and my Stag, I'm single-handedly trying to drag the country out of recession

It's a weber 500cfm performer carb, part on 1404, manual choke. I'm pretty sure they all come jetted the same and seem to work just as well on Rover V8s as they do on Stags.
Dave Chapman has one (022Dave) with modified inlet manifold, modified heads and valve seats and lotus cam, 200bhp if I remember right, and still with the same jetting.
It's got the 7 deg angle built in and was sourced from Tony Fox in Canada along with the fitting kit (which was intended for a Holley, I changed my mind along the way and went for the weber)
Tim Shoubridge did all the legwork sourcing the adapter kits and picked them up on his travels to the US which meant we only had to pay for shipping from Canada to the US. I bought 2 webers (one for Tim) and by working together our kits cost us about £360 each. I got the airfilters from a UK ebay site. (modifiedv8engines)
The rolling road cost £70+ Vat, but to be honest you could probably DIY following the instructions that come with the carb. I was curious to know how much power I was getting (RRs are fun!) and keen to get it right from the start, since no-one else has the same setup as me that I know of.
I'm sure Tim will pass on Tony's contact details to anyone who wants them! (sorry Tim)

I should say that in addition I have fitted: LHD throttle cable, I had to cut back the sheathing a couple of inches to expose more of the inner cable, I was able to re-fit the ferrule.
A new fuel filter and longer fuel pipe
A longer breather hose
Throttle return spring
Also the kickdown cable and choke cables are a faff, but not too difficult.
