A Phoenix Rising From The Ashes

Some of you may remember the saga regarding my Stag "failing to proceed" on May Bank Holiday and despite the help from the AA and Forum members it remained in that state until it could go to the engine rebuilder six weeks ago.

You may be interested to know that the seizure was caused by a broken valve spring on No5 exhaust allowing the valve to chip and hit the piston, wedging the head of the valve into the cylinder head between valve seats.

    No 5 piston was smashed...

Whilst the engine was being rebuilt, other work was also done. Autobox and torque converter checked over ; replacement steering rack ; two track rod ends ; gearbox oil cooler removed, cleaned and straightened ; replacement exhaust system, replacement handbrake system and PDWA switch and some brake pipes replaced ; and what seems like a 101 other smaller items put right ; then an MOT

I'm delighted to say that the old girl is now back in my garage and the engine purrs just beautifully

    Happy days are here again...

    Regards

    Peter

WOW Peter, you don't muck about, if you're going to break something, do it properly ! I dread to think what the bill was, but chuffed to bits for you that it's all done. There's probably just enough decent weather left for you to enjoy. Martin.

        OUCH!
I knew it was something serious when even my big stilsons made no attempt to turn the crank.
Broken valve springs are one of those things that are impossible to predict, and can leave a horrible mess. Glad it is all running again

I dread to think what the bill was but it does indeed sound like you have a very well sorted Triumph Stag now .
