    Loss of Dashpot Oil

    Hi all,

I am struggling with a loss of power when pulling away and the engine missing, particularly between 1000-2000 revs.

My guess is this is to do with damping in one of the carbs as the dashpot oil doesn't last more than 30 mins. I have replaced the diaphragm but it has not made any difference the oil soon goes - should I be looking to replace the O ring as other than this I cannot see where the oil could possibly be going. If so is this an easy job for a carb novice?

Also when the dashpot is topped up it still misses so I am not sure if this is just masking a deeper issue?

    Any ideas.

    Thanks

    Phil

      Phil,

Loss of dashpot oil is down to a perished o-ring. It will have to be replaced.

Thanks Dave - is this an easy one or will the needle have to be adjusted afterwards? Carbs have always been a black art to me!

        Cheers

undo the four screws at the top of the dashpot and pull it all out the o rings are at the bottom. on reassembaly make sure the lug on the lid sits next to is sister on the main part of the carb otherwise the needle won't go up and down right.

Sounds like something that can be done without the carbs needing to enter Mrs R's kitchen which should at least save me a bunch of flowers!

            Cheers

There was an article in the club mag on how to do this a few months back, it's not too difficult.

When you have done them, top the pots up with ATF as its think for performance and does not perish any rubbers.

Don't use engine oil, too thick, especially from cold. ATF is the answer

                  Nick,

Hi,I need to do same job,are you saying "O" RING can be reached from the top of the carb without taking it apart or removal from car?.

Does this oil just get burnt in the fuel/air mixture?

Also anybody know which issue/Month this featured in mag

                  Thanks in advance

                    Mark,

The o-ring is part number 512317 on the attached diagram. You only need to remove the dashpot from the carb. Then remove the needle from the dashpot and push the o-ring out c/w its starred retaining washer. Haynes and the ROM describe the job if I recall, but it is a few years since I did the job.

PS sent you a pm re the fuel gauge.

                          Sorry maverick

i do not have the technology, if you follow the ins in haynes for removing needles all should be evident.
