Engine buying warning

Back in February in an effort to speed up the restoration I was doing on a Stag I foolishly bought a fully rebuilt engine from a chap in Scotland.
He claimed to have built lots of Stag engines and looked after many Stags in the area.
The engine was offered on E-Bay as fully rebuilt with a huge spec list of replaced and renewed parts.

The sale was finalised off e-bay and payment was made seperately.
Word of warning here, never be tempted to not go through the e-bay channels as you have no come back afterwards..

Anyway long story short,the engine was poorly rebuilt and leaked water from all areas,even before it had been run.I tried to solve some of the issues but it became apparent that there were Head problems as well..

The chap said he would not do anything until he got the engine back,so it was removed and returned to him..

It is now September and he has not returned the engine or my money.
He is also now aggressive when he responds and has suggested that I travel 400 miles to Scoland to collect it as it is..

In future I will just build my own or buy from a reputable supplier..

It transpires that he does not have a bona fida business and is an individual that thinks he knows how to rebuild Stags..

Avoid this man at all costs as he is a cheat and a liar..

I cannot name him on here but if you are buying an engine from the Midlothian area PM me first..

Does anyone know this Guy as he claims to well respected in Scottish Stag circles..

it is disappointing when you hear stories like this, but unfortunately it is always buyer-beware with anything which does not come from a genuine retail outlet.

Did you pay with Credit Card? They sometimes have quite a long grace period within which you can put in a claim for non-delivery of specified goods or something similar.

Sadly not Drew.I am a very trusting person and take people at face value..Should know better really..
Also its not just the fact that he now will not do anything about it,its his attitude,very aggressive and treating the whole thing as if Im the one in the wrong..

If it was me I would stick him in a small claims court very simple and all done on line , it dose not cost much and gets the ball rolling I done it to ebay, bosh and lots of other people when they do the dirty on me, never had one not pay up before we went to court {https://www.moneyclaim.gov.uk/web/mcol/welcome} good luck.

Before the finger gets pointed in the wrong direction.The individual I bought the engine from claimed to have built lots of Stag engines for his customers.
It turned out not to be a business but someone trying to advertise as if he was.
I dont think he has anything to do with the Engine rebuilders in Midlothian...

I hate when this sort of thing happens.
I am looking at buying an engine that has been reworked as in the long run it saves me time but your story has put me off and I will now do all the work myself. I only have myself to blame if there are problems but at least I will know that the work has been carried properly.

before this tread gets out of order,...i khow the guy who built this engine ..,first when sam reported the fault he was told to get it repaired and the guy would pay ,..then he told him to return engine he would fix ,..when engine arrieved parts missing {sam took off} engine was drooped by the carrier and carbs dizzy other parts broke{am know aboute this},was waiting for carrier to come and look but that never happened,have photos of engine ,before and after ,engine is sitting im my friends garage waiting to get picked up....so lets getit right before you all get on your high horse and talk aboute big boys hospitail food.....hope this helps
