Sigma S30 Alarm - Central Locking Motors Help Needed! - Any Alarm Experts About?

I have wired a 2nd hand Sigma S30 Cat 1 alarm into my main wiring loom whilst it was out of my Stag (alarm was too cheap to refuse :-))

Everything is done, has taken ages to do, but I am now left with one issue and need a bit of help!

I bought 2 of the Maplin type central locking door motors off ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2906389731...84.m1439.l2649 they seem pretty much identical to the Maplin ones but are half the price. I bought them before having done any real research into these type of motors.......... and have since found them even cheaper!!!!

I was given basic installation diagrams with the alarm and from what I can gather the actual S30 alarm module itself will power and operate the door lock motors directly, without the need for any relays. See photo.

I think each motor is max c.2.2amp but the pair that I have bought only have 2 wires each. I have since found out that kits like the ones from Maplins have a master motor with 5 wires and the other motors are slaved off it. Perhaps I should have bought on of these?

Anyway, I would be really grateful if anyone could help me with the questions below:

    1) Will pins 20 (blue and white wire) and 21 (red and green wire) on the alarm harness be able to directly power x2 motors or will I need relays?

    2) Will I need to put a fuse inline for the door motors? If so what rating?

    3) Can I use the 2 wire versions of the motors that I have or will I need to get one 5 wire master motor?

    4) Just out of interest, is there anyone out there with an S30 alarm on their Stag?

    Cheers, Keith.

    Hi Keith,

Sorry, I can't help with your query but as you've mentioned central locking, I'm hoping to fit it sometime and I'd be very interested to hear anyone's advice or recommendations (or warnings) about any systems.

    Cheers

    Julian

      Keith,

Can't help with the c/locking but I am intrigued that the alarm wiring is coloured (according to your description).

I was under the impression that to have a Thatcham Category allocated all the wires had to be the same colour. The ones I have fitted have all been black. Each wire has the end identified by a number which is cut off during installation.

      Anyway,hope someone can help.

Hi Dave, out of the 24 wires, 12 are black (immobiliser, earths and power connections) with the others (x6 CDL, x3 indicator and x3 trigger) being various colours. It is the same alarm as still sold today but mine is dated 2004. I think this was when it was first launched and may be before it got Thatcham approval, although it subsequently did. Perhaps they made all of the wires black later or it is just the key immobiliser and power wires that have to be black for T1 approval?

I just bought the alarm because it was really cheap but since getting it have done a bit of research into it, it is a derivation of the factory-fit Subaru Imprezza alarm (M30) which was designed by a British guy. My alarm, the S30 is the general sale version. The designer used to answer Subaru alarm queries on a couple of forums under the name of 'Sigma Sam' and is obviously very knowledgable about them! Unfortunately he no longer works for TOAD, (Sigma was a part of TOAD) so he no longer responds to questions. Damn!

        Cheers, Keith
