Driver seat issue - where's Martin?

Noticed a problem yesterday when I tried to fold the driver seat forward to gain access to the rear seat. The knob/lever on the side of the seatback is jammed solid and therefore won't release the catch (that secures over the pin on the seat base I think) that allows the seat back to drop forward. I can't seem to release the catch manually from underneath either. Is there a way without forcing it, or taking the seat out? I'm guessing the catch is released by a cable, similar to bonnet release?

    Any ideas ladies and gents?

(Martin - I could round up your 5 Guineas to a new crispy 6 pound note if you come up trumps on this one!)

    Matt.

IIRC you can access the cable from the rear of the seat by taking the rear cover off (two screws at the bottom and it should slide downwards to remove it) At least that will get you access to the cable. Not sure if that may help your cause mind you:

No doubt someone has dealt with a seized catch before .

if you remove to two side bolts (the chrome ones) you can get the back part of the seat out

That's a good idea from Chas but I'd just add that there are also two more screws hidden inside the map pocket on the seat back.

        Cheers

That's spooky Julian. I couldn't believe there were only two screws holding the seat back on, so just went and looked and sure enough only two screws. I would have missed the map pocket screws for sure.

Many thanks to Chas and Dave (the members on this Forum get ever more impressive!!). Any ideas as to what I might need to do to free up the mechanism and correct it? I know it's difficult without seeing it!

          Matt.

Let me know if you need any replacement bits as I have two old seat frames going nowhere.

And thank you for that .

That certainly gets rid of one mystery for me. I thought it was crazy how the backrest was only held on with two screws and two clips. Mine came to me with the two screws and clips with the addition of some PVA glue... That should complete my seat refurbishment that I started a short while ago (everything is together bar the seat backs).
