I did mine in a mix of standard enamel gloss with a a touch of laquer added the results damn good!...but bow to the forums comments!!!

Just a thought - would black Hammerite do the trick? :?
My new Stag has what appears to be self-coloured alloys, except the colour is a shade darker than the carmine of the body. There is a wine red colour in the Hammerite smooth range and I wonder if this is what has been used.
