    La Dolce Vita

Been enjoying putting some mileage on the old girl and making up for most of the summer when she hardly moved a wheel.

It's really been a case of any excuse to drive her at weekends. Today off to do some shopping at Sainsburys in Newcastle under Lyme, then because I had nowhere else to go, drove up the M6, had a coffee at Knutsford services then back home again. I know how to live the good life

I'm delighted with the engine rebuild apart from one small thing - the bonnet keeps popping open The trailing edge of the bonnet seems to sit a fraction too high when the bonnet is closed so I'm thinking that the striker needs some adjustment.

Now, this might seem a daft question - but bear in mind that I don't list "mechanical prowess" as a skill on my CV - do I adjust the screw in the striker pin clockwise or anticlockwise to get tighter bonnet fit?

Here's a photo of the old girl in all her splendour (Yes Bruce, I know the hardtop is on and it has been sunny today)

    Regards

Nice one Peter,  it may be that the pin needs screwing out a little so that lock catches it. If you want the bonnet to sit lower then lower the catch.

Release lock nut, screw striker pin by screwdriver in slot at end of plunger cone, tighten lock nut.

Put mine on on Wednesday morning, took it off again in the afternoon. I had lost my storage area so was moving it to Dover
Having said that the forecast isnt good in the morning so perhaps I should have left it on

La Dolce Vita - one of my favourite songs of the 80's. Nice car by the way, not sure why the hardtop is on though!

Lovely looking car and of course the BEST colour. I suppose the Leyland dealership in Woore (was it Mullocks? - no jokes lads) has been built on long ago? I remember collecting or delivering a Wolseley 6 version of the Landcrab there and still remember the turbine smoothness of the engine, having only ever driven 4 pots.

Just taxed mine but not put the hardtop on - yet.

There was a BL dealership in nearby Nantwich called Richard Mullock, but when we moved into Woore around 18 years ago, the garage was then just a village petrol station selling overpriced petrol with a small showroom which was used for storage of assorted junk. It was run by a husband and wife team who appeared to take it in turns with their Alsation as to which of them could scare off the most customers by being downright miserable.

Unsurprisingly about 12 years or so, it went up for sale, no takers and it became almost derelict (much the same as many other rural garages)

About 7 years ago, a developer bought it, raised it all to the ground and crammed in some "affordable" housing whose only benefits were to overlook the cricket ground and to be within staggering distance from both The Falcon and The Coopers Arms.

                  Regards

Hi Peter, before undoing nuts and bolts, check that the bonnet cable outer is seated in it's socket at the catch, sometimes they pop out when you pull the release. Martin.
PS great picture of a great car.

They had a garage in Hough when we moved here, sold 2nd hand cars and servicing etc, mainly Rover Group stuff. Closed down around 10 years ago and built a few expensive houses on the land. I think they moved to new premises in Crewe?

                      Cheers

Mullocks is now situated on Wistaston Road in Crewe, 1/2 mile from my house. Glad to hear the car is running well Peter. No comment this time from me regarding the hardtop as mine now has one on as of yesterday evening now that it is living outside whilst the GT6 is in bits. I have borrowed the vinyl covered hardtop again off the chap at work for the duration of winter. Cheers Bruce

Remember Mullocks as I used to work for Longton Transport Group in Stoke area, probably ignited my insanity for BL products, driving bosses 2.5 PI Triumphs, 2500S, latterly SD1 Rovers and the MD's daughters Morgan. Never drove a Stag though until I bought mine 4 years ago. Highlight was collecting a brand new Series 3 XJ6 and having to deliver it to the company's largest customer in Liverpool - not bad for a 25 year old clerk at the time! I thought I was in heaven.

Memories eh? Hope you sort your bonnet, if not send me a PM and we'll meet and sort it?
