The forum was a great help last time so here we go again folks. Swapped my wiring loom on my mk 1 and went to plug in the warning light cluster, but the plug on the replacement loom only has 11 connections on it whereas the cluster lamp has twelve (my original butchered plug had 12 connections) a mk1 cluster unit currently on ebay also has 12 pins - any ideas why my loom plug only has eleven please??

Hi,
If you have an early Mk1 cluster this has seperate right/left indicator warning lights and a temperature warning light. The later ones have one flasher warning and no temp warning. Could be you have a later loom, in which case you will need a later cluster to go with it.Dave

Dave, isnt it the other way round, early Mk1 has one flasher warning lamp and a temp warning light?)

Currently I have a Kienzle clock in place of my right hand vent and an OPG where the clock was - all with digits identical to all the other instruments. I'm now planning one day (ha !) to make up an additional warning cluster loom and fit it in the right hand hole, where the vent was originally, and fit my clock in the left.
I don't think my right hand will obscure it quite so much - famous last words
If I ever get round to it I'll post some pics.

For those of us who often forget to cancel our indicators, I think a better visual warning is to flash a brighter lamp in a more conspicuous position. Why not use one of the existing lamps in the middle? On the Mk2 t It would be easy his could be the seat belt lamp or the hazard flasher; on the Mk1 it could be the red brake lamp.

I keep thinking that I should try and rig up a pair of indicator lights on the dash where the seat belt warning light is, perhaps using the existing warning light fitting so it is inconspicuous. I bought a spare with a view to doing this a couple of years ago, but I haven't done anything with it yet!

If I were to do as you suggest, how would I feed one light from the feeds to the two separate warning lights of my mk 2 ? Would I need diodes or the like to prevent backfeed ?

Julian, yes, 2 diodes. They allow current one way but not the other. Connect the 'Anode' of each (end without the ring marking) to the left and right indicator wires and the 'Cathodes' together (end with the ring marking). This then becomes the feed to the sounder which has power if either side indicators come on. If you want to try, I can supply you with suitable diodes.
