    Diesel Engine

    Just a hypothetical question !

With the price of fuel these days, and the economy afforded by large petrol engines perhaps a diesel conversion might be the answer.

Now apart from obtaining an adapter kit for the chosen engine to the Triumph gearbox, which engine would it be ?

There are some quite powerful and economical engines out there that will run on derv.

This is sounding like a good idea, hmmm !!

    What do you think ?

Ford 3l V6 twin turbo Lion engine as used in the Jag and Landrovers.

Or if feeling a little tight Honda 2.2 CDTi which avergaes 63MPG and has 140 BHP.

Trouble is the fumes with the top down and the lack of sound track

Anyway Diesel is more expensive than petrol due to it's oil content so you would think this will be the first fuel to die off if any of them do.

Just as a side comment watching the England game last night the said petrol was 25p per litre in Trindad & Tabago so why is it £1.17 here when we are one the oil producers?:X

This world is mad we just keep getting ripped of because of our nations wealth and the fact we keep giving handouts when people in our own country need help.

    Rant over

Just back from Guernsey. Approx £1 per litre. Car tax abolished and added to fuel price. All fuel imported. Ignoring taxation (personal at20P / £) the economics do not add up. It's just that we have no other forms of economy support than taxation these days. Financial services is all we have left and that is dwindling with the current credit squeeze and stupid taxation laws that are forcing offshore ship owners back to theirhome countries. Gordon & Alastair sit there in meetings with oil chiefs saying they want UK production stepped up. How is that going to lower the price? About time some of the oil compnies started wheeling out the patents on alternative technologies that they own the rights to but that won't happen.

Russ had it right in his earlier post.

        Simple, Stuart..... (rant coming on....)

Our fuel would be the same price if not for the greed of successive governments in fuel duty -bear in mindalso there is no incentive for them to reduce the duty proportion or encourage the reduction in crude oil prices as it has increased the VAT take on the overall price.... you pay VAT as well as duty on your petrol and diesel too remember...

        Rant postponed

I'll avoid giving myself raised blood-pressure regarding fuel costs and our government(s) ..... back to the original question...... which diesel engine ? - well, if you are going to carry on calling it a Stag and enjoy V8 thrills it would have to be either the Range Rover or Jag V8 TDs.

Couls need multiple bonnet bulges though !!

          cheers............Andy

And maybe a new diff too - I would imagine the torque from a V8 turbodiesel might make a mess of a standard diff......

Especially if you could fit this baby. I think I may have posted this before, but as it was designed and developed by my brother-in-law, we are quite proud of it:
