Firstly, I'd get somebody to put a rag or something over the tailpipes to block the outlet and then listen to see if you can hear any leaks.

If you don't detect any leaks then take a good look at your boot seal as fumes can get drawn into there and then into the passenger compartment.

    Good luck.

    Cheers

      Hi Gary,

Julian has a good point, test it yourself, also how many miles have you done with the new system? they do tend to smell a little when new and if it has gotten hotter now than it has before then this could cause a smell? are all the stickers off? have you a drip or drips of oil or some other contaminant on it in the engine bay? worth a look

      hope this helps

Took the seats out - what on earth for?

Is it exhaust or petrol fumes? - lift up the boot boards and have a good look around the petrol tank. If you have an original tank there is a small pipe stub at the top near the fuel sender unit that should be capped. The cap becomes brittle and can break easily.

If it is exhaust fumes that you are smelling I would check the exhaust gaskets at the downpipes.

I was getting the same problem. I found that underneath the carpet on the drivers side there were a couple of rubber gromits missing. I've just taped the holes up for now but that seemed to cure it until I get round to buying some new ones.

Make sure your boot seal is fitted the right way round. We suffered this problem for yours. Whenever we drove with the roof up, I would get out feeling nauseous. I then discovered that the join in the boot seal was at the rear of the boot opening rather than at the front, adjacent to the rear edge of the tonneau. Took it off, refitted it the right way round and no problem since.

Sometimes it is the simplest thing that can cause a problem.

                Gary,

We need to compare notes! I posted a day or so ago (thread entitled "Smelly?"). Haven't had time to try to sort mine yet. Will post if I find the remedy - hope you will too. Concensus seems to point to leaking downpipe/manifold joint - do you also have popping in the exhaust on over run?

                Cheers,

                Matt.
