    Tail pipes

I have the standard and original exhaust system on my '76 Stag. The tail pipes are scabby and generally let the car down as you can see the rusty sections from the nearside and the chrome tail pipes are pitted.

I want to replace the tail pipe section with stainless steel. Are the stainless steel tail pipe sections compatible with the original system?

    Thanks

    Steve

Steve. Stainless steel pipe sections should fit on to your mild steel ones without any trouble. Mike.

Hi Jools. What a brave place to own a Stag! I wonder if yours is the only one in the Western Isles? I took my first one over from Ullapool back in the late 70's and had a great time working my way back to Oban on various Caledonian MacBrayne ferries. Time to do it again soon perhaps, before I get too old. I suspect overheating isn't too much of a problem, or speed cameras. I reckon the roads all over northern Scotland, particularly the West side, are best experienced from the driving seat of an open Stag. I don't suppose you will be at the AGM in Swindon this year though! Mike.

Hi mike, yeah stunning place to own a stag. Had mine 15 months now done 6k miles all over the west coast. Lewis and harris are amazing to drive around and did plenty this year with our excellent summer. Empty roads , hood down complete with ridiculous smile. Busy classic car scene up here but i've got the only Stag. There's a Lewis car club with about a dozen subarus, evos and the like. Real enthusiasts with stunning cars. To be honest, probably the best cars for our roads are the rally type 4 wheel drivers. Got a bit lucky with my car. 17 hundred quid on ebay and it's never been off the road except for the odd days for upgrades. Getting painted this week and chromes away. will post another album in a couple of weeks when finished. I intend to make the national next year. Cheers , jools

Jools. I think an article for the Club magazine is in order! I see from today's paper that Tesco's in Stornaway are doing big fuel discount vouchers at present, but you have to take the ferry to Ullapool to redeem them. Who are they kidding! See you next year on the SOCTFL stand then. Mike.

hi again Mike, bloody hell you're better informed than I about Tesco's. Never heard of this. Gonna nip down tomorrow (can feel a rant coming on). On the subject of writing an article, i'd be delighted. Just let me know what kind of thing would be wanted and i'll knock something up. Slainte, jools.

Jools. I have had a word with Carl, the magazine editor, and he is very keen to hear from you, with the only Stag in the Wetern Isles. Obviously some photographs of the wonderful scenery, and something about Classic Car ownership so far away from the rest of us. He suggested that if you could phone him on his number inside the front page of the magazine, or even email him, you could talk it through together. I look forward to reading something soon. Send me those Tesco coupons if you don't use them! Mike.
