    Brake Master Cylinder Parts

Set about replacing the seals on my master cylinder today. On disassembly I have noticed that the "split pin" that joins the two pistons is badly damaged and I want to replace it as well as the two tiny cotter pins that hold it in place.

Anyone know where you can get the small internal parts from. All the main parts suppliers simply list seal kits and complete cylinders. Or will I have to get a used cylinder to salvage parts from?

Hi Nigel, by cotter pins, do you mean the roll pins ? If so, they, and small split pins, can be bought cheaply in selection boxes. An old M/C is a good idea if you can find one. Martin.

      Hi Martin

Yes what I called cotter pins are the small roll pins that go through the pistons and hold the oval split pin that joins the two pistons together. The master cyclinder seems in great condition and you could see where the seal had failed hence the reason I am looking to repair the existing one. I had a great tip from Mick Ward about using a soldering iron to melt a hole in the nylon washer so that it could be levered out.

I will look out for a selection box as I am sure the roll pins will be fairly straight forward to find. Not sure about the split pin affair though?
