I have heard several mentions of an adapter kit which would allow me to fit a modern stereo to my Stag's radio aperture (the hole's too big!). I have one which a friend made up 8 years ago and whilst it fits snugly, it doesn't look very nice (sorry Big Man). I'm sure that we must have moved on since then? Where do I get a proper kit?

Graham,
Have a look on http://www.bosscreen.com
Click on Accessories, then Radio Adapter Plate. The one the club sells is this one. It needs no modification. It fits into the empty hole (needs to be the right way up) with no fasteners. Fitting from then on is exactly the same as fitting a unit into a modern car.The radio carriage cage fits into the adapter, then the radio unit then slips into the cage. Instructions are supplied and it took me only a few minutes including removing the old unit complete with its home-made bodge to switching on the radio in its smart new home.
This of course assumes that the wiring is already compatible with the new unit, i.e. a DIN plug/socket arrangement has been fitted.
Picture shows before and after. Unfortunately you can still see the two screw holes the previous owner made, but these will eventually be removed.

G'day Allan,
Depending on how much time you have,it is quite easy to copy the original centre console panel using 5 or seven ply and cut it so the radio aperture is to the correctDIN dimensions.
I used ajig saw and a couple of spade bits and it took me about 1 1/2 hours.
The plycan then be varnished or veneered depending on the finish required. It looks a lot neaterthan the adapter plate.
regards,
Raoul

Well, went in to buy a new tyre pressure guage and came out with a flash looking Fusion head-unit and matching door speakers. The iPod connector is going to require a spacer of some sort to get the depth required but it sounds good! Both of these look like they offer some additional depth but can one of you confirm please?

Nick, the buying is the easiest bit. Gettting the thing to fit less so. Quite how the last one stayed so rigid with a few bent hooks is beyond me. Depth is the real problem though, the iPod cable leaves everything poking out about a cm which is a complete pain in the bum, that before attaching the cage to the woodwork.
To get the radio out of the cage seems to need a special tool as well, which is another irritation. £40 to fit seemed like a bad idea at the time...

Well SOC didnt have an adapterbut Bossscreen did and it went in fairly quickly compared with what I was trying to do with the old modified surround. A bit of a squeeze to get it in and in an ideal world it would be a couple of mm deeper but I love the new toy and my son thinks its the best thing ever as he can play all his iPod tracks and do lots of other things with the remote control
