I didn't know that (Not stag related but could be)

Been doing a bathroom refit for my Mother-in Law for a few days now, today I had cause to get my smaller angle grinder out to cut some tiles for a shower I have fitted and noticed that the disc have a use by date on them never noticed this before, has anyone else. the one I have appear to have a 3 year shelf life

How many of us who use an angle grinder have ever checked

You can eat them but they taste like rusty spring washers.

this is due to the resins in the disc. Can result in disintegration of the disc with horrific results. Surprisingly many don't realise that discs are speed rated and using the wrong type for your grinder can be fatal.

          Hi Dave,

I know about the speed of them etc, many years ago I did a course on mounting and dressing them at work.

I also did my NEBOSH certificate back in 2000 and it wasn't covered on that either. I'll look at them in the future now though

I have never looked so that's interesting. I only use diamond steel wheels for cutting stone or ceramics. They are so cheap now and saves time constantly changing discs and virtually no risk of breakup even if it grabs whilst cutting.

Yep, I noticed the 'use by' date a little while ago and wondered why. Thanks for the explanation Dave.

The biggest problem I have is that I've got 4 different types of disc ( stone cutting & grinding + metal cutting & grinding). After I've used them for a while I can't read the markings any more and can't tell which one is which - although I know the thickness gives some idea.

              Cheers
