Boot/tonneau hinges - folks how the hell do you refit them please??!!

Had to remove my u/s boot/tonneau hinge assy's, but was unable to fit replacements due to the long sprung arm stopping the hinge going back thru the the bulkhead. Pinged the arm out of its locator -- but now can't get enough twist or tension to relocate the said arm!! I certainly can't see how to relocate the arm once the assy is back in the car let alone out of it. Am i missing something obvious here folks? Any thoughts/solutions gratefully received.

Had the boot hinges out of my stag a few months ago, they do go back in at a funny angle but its poss to do, i did think of taking the spring off but chickened out, but its poss with a vice and a bar, but as i said i chickened out.
Sorry not very helpful
Ps i changed my choke for a new one i will look in my scrap box and see if the clip is there

I got these from this forum back in March of this year i cannot seem to find them or the write up They are allthread bent to the size I think you hook one and and pull the hinge down with the other I don't know if this is what you need but its a start.

Vince at the minute i think i'd have been better off chickening out!! May well have to get two more and try again if you reckon they will go back in. If you manage to locate the choke clip that'd be major plus - please keep me up to speed with any developement - or indeed the lack of! Thanks for your response.

Thanks Stuart but i can do this bit ok - its the long spring steel arm tucked under the rear boot panel shown in your photo i'm having my slight disagreement with!

I used a long Stilson (Pipe Wrench) on the errant bit of those long wire springs. There is a small section with a wavy bit which enables you to use the wrench on it to twist the wire without it slipping around.

Will be looking for the clip this afternoon, the stilson idea sounds good, but if not then buying new ones is the only way and they do go back through, shame i cant remember the funny angle that i did it, but there again it may have been the bacardi that helped

Sorry, can't help with your boot, but if you can't get a switch clip, use two small tie raps. Martin.

Yeh i managed to do "the twist" bit the other day but couldn't relocate the end into the "hinge hole". That was on the floor tho not in a vice - would that do it?
