It wouldn't surprise me Ian I'll have to have a look at that bit on the Five repeat functionI

have to say the damn program is farcical but I still watch it for the cabaret value!!

As some of you know I am in the middle of restoring a classic mini and mine has been a nut and bolt job it’s now painted fully and still mounted on a proper rotating jig so I can refit some of it easier! I am now a year into it too, so a two week "restoration" is always going to be a cover up!
They botched that one up a treat and I would hate to own a car they had done it wouldn’t last five minutes. Also that bloke Dylan who pops along and values them is risking his credibility as he doesn’t even get the thing up on the ramp and have a look underneath let alone test drive it! What horrors might lie underneath the shiny paint, lord knows we have all seen it on Stags, shiny to look at rotten elsewhere! I must get him round to value mine!!
The MGBGT was all over the press last week and there’s athread on piston heads where they have a letter from the program makers admitting to swapping the shells part way through as the one they bought was too rusty to fix in the opinion.
You would think the program makers would know that true car nuts will be watching this and spot all this as fake.
It seems every week follows the same theme, see one car which is too expensive buy the next one with some acted haggling , buy some "used parts" have a bust up and then get the valuer round for a five minute appraisal

Still better than the wifes soaps for me......

Just been through the Mini resto and Ian your right
Different car loaded onto the trailer unless it has two different wings as I struggle to see a near side shot of it early on!
When they had "finished" it there were no side repeaters which I think were introduced on later models anyway! But not totally sure I think the change was around 1976
      What a shower!
Still it made me laugh again
suppose there's some value in that, as a grumpy old man now, as my kids call me!!
      Cheers Glyn

Thanks Glyn, I thought that was the case, as I said a totally rubbish show which makes you watch it just to see how far they will go with the farce.

BTW did you get round to using that steering column tube to sort out the play in yours.

        Ian.

I think Classic Rescue is great, in fact I was disappointed that I missed Monday’s episode.

As long as you treat it as a wind-up then it becomes quite entertaining.

Enjoy it for what it is and while it is still on as I doubt there will be another series, one series is enough for anyone.

It is like a soap, watch one program and before long you end up watching it all the time.

If nothing else it is a great talking point, just a shame that the format is exactly the same each week, they both see a car, walk away, the next car only one of the dynamic duo is present, the car is taken to the workshop, there is a hissy fit by the other one for buying a car that can’t be restored, there are a couple of drama queen sequences, the car is totally restored for next to nothing and finally valued way above the market value.

          Love it!

          Phil

According to the TV listings, the Mini 'restoration' episode was the last in the series (6 of 6), so we will have to contain ourselves and wait for another series next year. If they dare..................

I've been away for a few days so I'm not sure if the following has been mentioned by anyone on the forum

Classic car weekly has got the producers of CCR to admit that they fiddled the MGB one by using two cars so it would seem quite likely that they did the same for a Mini.

How on earth do you know what to believe these days ?

              Cheers

                Hi Ian
its still on my list to resolve the stag has taken a second place to getting the damn mini finished. Should look good when I've done though and not like the Ccr job although mines a similar colour and I have given it an old English white roof.
I am now on with the oily bits the shell is repaired and painted top bottom inside and out ! I'll post up a picture or two when I get the chance. Just picked up a nice twin exhaust for it today I couldn't resist it!

i have moved the stag to my dads garage for the winter, although she flew through the mot this year again in sept. I pop over every week and take her for a blast but its odd seeing the space in the garage !
The dust from painting and repaired the mini was getting everywhere despite layers of covers plastic sheeting etc. hence moving her out.
I am hoping to be back working on the stag next year so will do the steering column then.
                Thanks for asking mate
                cheers Glyn
