Water pump question

I am in the process of stripping my engine.
The car is a 1976 model and having removed the water pump cover I see there is a 6 vane water pump fitted.
Can anyone tell me if this should be the case ?
I thought it should have been a 12 vane pump.

I think 6 is the norm, but can't be sure. It doesn't seem to make a significant difference as far as I am aware. You just need to make sure you have the right pump cover as the 6 and 12 vane pump impellers are different shapes.

There was one in my case: wrong impeller in wrong cover by previous owner...
