    Boot question

    Hi,

is anybody able to post a photo of a complete and mainly original boot of a MK2? I'm wondering especially about the locations and the look and feel of this 3 parts

(Partnumbers 623461, 623462, 623,463), which I don't have in the boot of my car.

Another question is regarding to the fixing of the boot mat to the boot boards, because my mat always flies around.

    Can anybody help?

    Regards

    Gerd,

The item on the right fits into the square holes around the edge of the boot where the boot boards sit. There should be 3 for each board. The washer fits onto the pin and the two bits go through the holes in the boards and into the other bit (now hopefully fitted to the car shell) and turn 90 degrees to lock the boards in place.

To fit the mats, you either get some carpet fasteners - http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/c-50-c...fasteners.aspx - or use velcro.

Just to make it clearer for me: the item on the right does not require any additional fasteners such as screws or rivets, right?

        Hi Gerd,

Not wishing to pinch Dave's glory, but in case he's gone to bed , I can confirm that the item on the right just clips in place and so doesn't need any extra fasteners.

        Cheers

Gerd, the squarish clip is inserted from underneath the square cut-outs in the boot. When fitting the one in the corners where the fuel tank is, stuff some blanket or whatever in the gap between boot side and fuel tank. If they snap out of your fingers as you are inserting them, they will inevitably end up on the boot floor underneath the tank. They are also nylon, so can't be extricated with a magnet. Don't ask how I know this!

              Hi Drew,

Thank you very much for this tip! Such things happen to me quite a few times.

                Gerd,

if you get one of those cheap small paint/glue/resin brushes with a wooden round handle that cost a few cents in the DIY store, then cut of the wooden handle so it is about 5 cm long. You can then insert this into the square clip from below until it just jams. Then use this to be able to pull the clip into place and engage one side of the "barbed" bit. Once it is in position, push out the stick a bit and just lever the second barb into place with a little electric screwdriver.

It all sounds very involved, but I lost over an hour retrieving those clips from different boot sections before I worked out this way!
