    noisey fuel pump

Hi all, over the last few weeks the fuel pump has become so noisey i can hear it above the radio at speeds upto 50MPH, after that the wind noise is too much to hear anything,
so,is this a sign the pump is knackered? it still pumps ok. if so any recommendations as to its replacement, electronic or conventional? any particular make or supplier?

    all recommendations appreciated

    thanks derek

Assume it is a SU pump and not a Facet pump. If it is SU and pumps well then check all joints to make sure it is not sucking air anywhere. If you change it, go electronic.

Here Here ! Could the mounting cotton reels have bust and allowed the body to touch the bodywork ?

It depends what you mean by electronic. The alternative to electronic is mechanical, a pump driven by the engine, which is not the case with the Stag. So is not the Stag fuel pump electronic? I think most pumps sold now do not have the points, which was a common cause of problems in the early days.

That's a bit pedantic Rod, the choice is between electro-mechanical and electronic, points / no points. Martin.

Thanks all, 1 stud was broken but i removed the pump and held it in my hand whilst someone switched on the ignition,it was almost as noisey in my hand, i have stripped the pump and the diaphragm looks well past its best, so i will go with a new pump, my first thought was Ld but he is out of stock, so will speak to wards about their QH pump, any alternative suggestions?

                derek

The pressure is the main thing to watch out for you need 2 1/2 to 3lbs pressure or fit a pressure regulator in the system. MGB or some Jag pumps fit-might be worth a Google or search E.bay.
