    Stag fuel line

    Help!
I very recently took on an unfinished Stag project and now I'm having regrets. I'm half ready to call it a day but the other half of me doesnt want to be beaten.

The story of this car is a friend of mine bought it 20 yrs ago and started restoring it. He had it all welded and resprayed (rubbish respray though). Also he had a Rover 3.5 SDI engine put in but nothing other than the prop and exhaust has been connected. He then lost interest.
He then sold it onto his cousin who had great plans for finishing it off but did nothing apart from take it apart even more and just store it for the last 16 yrs.

Then I come along with a couple of other restorations under my belt thinking I can sort this mess out but it's proving difficult.

There are wires everywhere with cut ends. I downloaded a wiring diagram and the colours seem to be different to the car. a real headache

Ive got no idea what to do about getting the cable from the accelerator to the carbs (as with the choke also)

But what I really needed help with right now is the Fuel line.

There wasnt one on the car as someone had removed it to underseal. I cant for the life of me see where the fuel line should go. I cant see any holes for clips or anything.
I tried google images for "fuel line, prop shaft, exhaust, - anything to get a picture of the underside of a stag but nothing is out there. I really need help with this first stage. A photo would help but even an explaination.

My plan was to get the fuel system intact, then the ignition system followed by the cooling. Then fire the thing up.

    Thanks in advance

    Johnny

Johnny, not sure if this helps on page 17.15.00. of the ROM http://www.grampianstags.net/StagManual.pdf there is an outline sketch which may help. There have been a couple of threads about it as well, I'm sure someone who knows more than me will be along soon.
Oh and there are a few guys East of London who I'm sure would be happy to drive round to show you theirs (as it were...)

Here are some pictures I took of the rear gearbox mounting when I was rebuilding my Stag earlier this year. You can see the copper brake pipe and next to it the black plastic fuel pipe. They go together on the LH side of the transmission tunnel.

Im afraid I've only got pictures of that area, but maybe they'll help a bit?

      Cheers,
      Mike.
Mine since 1987. Finished a 20+ year rebuild in 2012. One of many Triumphs and a 1949 LandRover!

            Hi Johnny,

            Welcome to the forum.

There is nothing the people on here like more than helping a restoration along and assisting someone to get their Stag back on the road so you've come to the right place! Stick in there and ask away when you get stuck. Someone is bound to be able to help you out.

            Regards

            Dave

              Hi Jonny, welcome

if i remember someone posted about brake lines and they put quite a few photos on, as has been said the fuel and brake line are in the same clips under the body, try a search for the fuel lines and see if that helps

Not necessarily - the fuel line route from tank to engine bay would be pretty much the same, it's onloy the termination in the engine bay that would be different, essentially from the engine bay filter to the carbs.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

Yep, hang on in there Johnny - it'll be worth it in the end.

I wish this was the underside of my car but this might help you a bit.

                  Good luck and cheers

                        Hi Johnny,

Glad to be of assistance just hope it might help to persuade you to keep up the restoration

Sadly, as I mentioned, it's not mine. I think that was one of Ali's restorations (maybe Wb50's car?) He used to do amazing restorations but sadly died far too early

                        Cheers

                        Julian

If anyone lives near Ilford Essex and has a Rover conversion in their Stag and wouldnt mind me taking some photos of their car It'll be a great help to me. I feel like I'm doing a 1000 piece jigsaw without a picture. I managed to restore an MGB and more recently a mercedes R107 SL (which I'm trying to sell at the moment) and had no trouble at all as everything was just as the manual said. But Ive never had to work on anything that needed modifying before and is proving a pretty daunting task right now.

My number is 07860145142 and I'm actually based in Gants Hill IG2
