Don't take your Stag to Paris?

There is a report in this morning's Daily Telegraph that the mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delaneo, is to present to the city council a proposal to ban all "old bangers" from Paris under a plan to cut pollution. The intention is to outlaw, by September 2014, the use of cars and utility vehicles more than 17 years old and lorries and buses more than 18 years old. Motorcycles built before 2004 will also be banned. Speed limits are also being reduced. Now I don't suspect that Boris would introduce such a stupid measure as this in London but just think who may be following him. It only needs another Ken Livingston, or worse, to propose something like this for London and what about other major cities in the country. Lets live in hope that this does not become a law in the European Union then we would really have had it. Everyone pray.

Having driven in Paris I think it's the last place I would take my precious Stag!

I first went to Paris as a schoolboy in the early 1950s and saw for the first time lunatic driving. In later years I saw even more lunatic driving in Portugal. In Paris they had pedestrian crossings but if you stood on the kerb waiting for some kind motorist to stop for you then think again. You would have stood there all day long. The idea, I was told at the time, was to be bold and make the motorists stop for you by stepping onto the crossing whilst they are still going along at some excessive speed. Needless to say none of wanted to play chicken at the time.
